Hello our dear friends and families. In this post we would be glad to share with you our last thrilling adventures that happened to us as we left for the famous town of Kilkenny.
This lovely little municipality of about 8000 citizens has a lot to offer: a famous castle, some medieval churches and the brewery of worldwide famous beer. Ok, maybe you have never tasted it (in France it is quite popular, not as much elsewhere in Europe), but if you have seen at least one episode of South Park you have definitely heard about it!
So, in spite of cold and rain and even hail, we reach the town of Kilkenny and when we arrive to the gates of the world-famous brewery we realise that… It is closed.
Therefore we decide to go to to St Canice’s Cathedral. And, well, it is also closed. But it does not stop Vinc from taking tones of pictures of it. Here is a little sample:
There was another, smaller and also closed church in the neighbourhood, but the best thing about it was the sky above:
Fortunately, the pubs were open, as the evening got really chilly…
Next day we headed to the Kilkenny Castle, and the sun was so sharp I had to put on my sunglasses!
To our big surprise, the castle was open, well, maybe except of the biggest and most beautiful ball room, closed due to some works. The castle used to be a rectangular fortress, but the part where once the entrance was got destroyed by so beloved between Irish people Cronwell. Today it looks like that:
The interesting detail of this castle is that the owners did not want the servants to spoil the vue while running from one wing to another so they had an underground passage constructed for them!
Et voilà, Kilkenny. The people were much more open than the landmarks, we even got to know a local storyteller who knows a lot about the connections between Paris and Kilkenny! And the beer was good as usually, but let’s leave it for another post.
What is the story about South Park ?
I want to know, this blog is completely useless although the pictures are wonderful.
Ok, ok, I’ll give you a hint: what is the sentence that comes back in every episode, rather at the end? Sounds familiar? Well, the bet of one of the creators was that he’d manage to put the name of his favourite beer in every single episode of South Park!
